How To Treat and Get Rid ofAcne

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 19, 2009

When a discussion is started about acne there are really only two things people want to know; how to treat it and how to get rid of it. Of course, these are really one in the same. The same skills you need to learn so you know how to treat acne are also the exact same skills you have to have to know how to get rid of acne. Unfortunately, the most important skills for treating and getting rid of acne are the ones no one asks about in time to use them.

This article will be a cautionary warning about avoiding problems by preventing them instead of waiting until they are a big problem to deal with them. Acne is like that, in that if you work hard at prevention you may very well not have to worry about treatment or eradication problems. Follow these easy guidelines to good facial skin health and you will be well on your way to having defeated acne without firing a shot.

Do everything you can to elliminate as much stress from your life without stressing yourself out doing it. This means that you need to get plenty of sleep every night and eat as healthy as your stomach can stand. You also need to try to avoid getting frazelled as much as possible by all the things life throws your way. I know, I know, easier said than done, just do your best.

Strive to keep the skin of your face in immaculate condition. Treat it like your first car. You know, the one you were constantly cleaning on because you were so proud of it. Do the same for your face. Wash it with a mild soap several times a day and use a glycolic acid face wash in the morning and evening to fully cleanse the pres and keep the dead skin cleared away. Also you need to avoid touching your face with your hands because the grime on your fingers will only irritate your skin and make it more susceptible to an acne outbreak.

If you take charge of your own life and your own face by following these steps closely, you will be positioning yourself to be in the enviable position of never having to ask how to treat and get rid of acne.

Simple Acne Treatments

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 17, 2009

Acne is a problem almost everyone has to deal with at some point in their lives. Some people take it seriously enough to finally cure the acne and clear it up, others just get used to it and it eventually goes away on its own most of the time. Obviously you want to learn how to take a proactive stance and get rid of your pimples yourself. Good for you!

These are some easy to follow acne treatments that will start you down the road to getting rid of your acne once and for all. Start with these and if you are still having problems then move on to more advanced and radical therapy options. If you are one of those people who don’t care for the chemical creams and lotions available at the drug store you may want to start with the all natural home remedies for acne that are listed first.

The first rule of controlling and eliminating acne is to wash your face regularly. By regularly, I mean several times a day with a gentle soap so as not to irritate your skin any further.

Next try applying natural essential oils directly onto the acne itself. Some of these oils to try are Tea Tree Oil, Bergamot Oil, Clove Oil, Lavender Oil, and Rosewood Oil. For those of you with especially sensitive skin you might want to try diluting these oils with Grape seed oil to reduce irritation. Put this oil mixture on the acne area in the evening and leave it on overnight. Wash your face thoroughly in the morning with a mild soap and water. If you continue this therapy for about a month you should notice a significant improvement in your acne.

If you don’t have any success with the essential oils you are going to have to move on to the over the counter medical options. There are several products to consider here but a good benzoyl peroxide cream or gel to apply directly to the pimples is a good place to star. A good follow up to that will be a glycolic acid face wash to help remove the dead skin cells that are clogging the pores and causing the acne.

If the steps mentioned earlier haven’t worked after a reasonable amount of time you should consider scheduling an appointment for an examination and consultation with an allergist. A lot of people don’t realize that many food allergies can manifest themselves in the form of acne.

If you have tried everything else, you have no choice but to consult with a dermatologist and see if you might be a candidate for one of the many prescription drug therapies available to ease and eliminate acne problems.

It is very important that you give the acne treatments time to work. Give each step at least one month, and possibly more. Some acne treatments will actually make the acne appear to be worse before it starts clearing up. This is perfectly normal, and in most cases, even to be expected. Remember, your skin is sick and needs to heal. It won’t happen over night.

Home Remedies for Acne

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 13, 2009

Did you have any idea that there were any home remedies for acne? If you didn’t, don’t be discouraged. In this day of quick fixes and buy-it-at-the-store mentality most people never stop to think about what people did for themselves back before there was a pharmacy on the way home from work or school.

Acne has been a burden on people, especially teenagers, as long as there have been teenagers. The difference is that they had to deal with the problem without the luxury of a trip to the drug store for some glycolic acid cream or a tube of Clearasil. Amazingly too, I don’t remember ever hearing of anyone in history who died from a pimple outbreak and somehow the adults didn’t all grow up with terrible acne scars all over their faces. Do you know why this is? They had acne home remedies just like they had home remedies for other ailments.

Just to make a point and prove I’m not lying to you, Ill list a few of the home remedies I’ve discovered.

  • Create a mixture with the juice of one lemon and two tablespoons of rose water then apply it to your face. Let it sit for thirty minutes and then rinse. Do this once a day and you should notice a decrease in your acne.
  • Mash a cucumber into a paste and apply it to your face. Rinse it off thoroughly after thirty minutes. If you do this every day you should notice an improvement in your complexion after a couple of weeks.
  • If you apply a small amount of toothpaste to your pimple in the evening, by morning the swelling should be reduced noticeably.

These are just a few of the acne home remedies that have been passed down for many, many years. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking if it isn’t expensive and come from the acne aisle at the store it can’t be any good. If you are having difficulty controlling your own acne you might want to consider giving one of the old home cures a try.

What Is The Best Acne Treatment?

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 12, 2009

One of the most common questions I hear people asking is, “What is the best acne treatment?”

All of us who suffer or have suffered with acne are always on the lookout for the next miracle cure that is going to clear our faces up overnight and make the whole world a better place if we will only spend the fifty bucks for the tiny little tube of heaven waiting behind the drugstore counter. You know it’s true. We have all gotten excited by some new product or therapy we see on television or read about on the internet. I don’t even want to guess how much money I have flushed down the toilet chasing the miracle cure dream, do you?

The real truth is the same as it has always been, the best acne treatment varies from person to person because all of our skin and environments are different. Isn’t it funny how we live in a world that celebrates diversity, yet we keep expecting to find some kind of one-size-fits-all silver bullet acne treatment to save the day and relieve us from the seemingly constant face washing and cream or gel applications?

When it comes to answering the question of what the best acne treatment is, it still just comes down to this; the treatment that you and your dermatologist have worked out for your particular situation. Sorry, no miracle cures here today.

Removing Acne Scars With Chemical Peels

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 12, 2009

Often acne scars can be easily removed with a chemical peel process. This method has been used for many years to not only remove acne scars but other types of skin blemishes and discolorations also. With a chemical peel, doctors remove the outermost layers of skin. When the new skin forms the earlier blemishes disappear. Let us find out about how acne scars are treated with chemical peels.

Keloids

Unfortunately, keloid type scars form in some individuals and cannot be generally removed with peeling. Keloids are skin growths that are full of collagen and look very unsightly. Whenever a person who forms keloids gets any injury the scars form keloids. No doctor generally tries to remove keloids because the scar healing may form more of them.

Ice Pick and Saucer Scars

Other acne scars are normally ice pick type and saucer type. These scars can be easily treated with chemical peeling. Your doctor will assess the depth of the scar and try to remove skin up to that level. As the new skin will form there will be little scarring left. For chemical peeling, the doctors apply a chemical on the site and the chemical peels away the skin in a controlled manner over sometime. Redness and swelling may result with deep peeling. The skin heals over about ten days and new skin forms. If you have acne scars, please find out with your doctor about the possibility of removing them with chemical peeling.

There are many options when it comes to chemical peel therapies, there are even some very good home versions. The problem with these home chemical peels is that they are usually too week to clear up acne scars. You should always consult with your dermatologist before deciding what type of therapy will best solve your current problems.

Causes of Acne

By understanding the causes of acne you can avoid the increasing the potential of having issues of your own. Earlier we discussed what acne is, now this article will help you to clearly realize the things in your life that may be contributing to your acne problems and help you to correct the things that may be making your acne worse.

Though the exact cause of acne is unknown, many doctors believe it is a direct result of a variety of factors. One of these factors is the increase in androgens during puberty. Androgens are hormones, and can cause the enlargement and overstimulation of the sebaceous glands in people with acne.

For both males and females, the increase in androgens during puberty can cause these sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, which is oil. This oil mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria on the skin and blocks pores. Inside of these blocked pores bacteria multiplies and leads to swelling, which then causes spots and pimples. Some researchers also believe that acne is hereditary, and that people with parents who had acne are likely to inherit acne.

Though stress has not been found to be a direct cause of acne, it can lead to aggravated cases of acne. This happens because when someone is laden with anxiety, their body produces hormones such as cortisol, which exacerbates acne. Other possible causes of acne include certain medications, drugs, steroids, have or oily make-up, and harsh skin cleansing. Greasy foods and dirty skin have often been blamed for acne, but there is little evidence supporting these as direct causes of acne. Acne is also not contagious.

Now you have a better understanding of what causes acne in the first place and can avoid those things and, hopefully, begin the process of clearing up the acne from your skin. Now that we have established the grounwork of understanding acne we can begin the process of defeating it and clearing it up with the acne skincare tips in the upcoming posts so check back soon.

What Is Acne?

Posted by: poshy1 on: March 5, 2009

What is acne? Before it’s possible to successfully deal with their acne issues and begin to look for acne cures, it is necessary to know what acne actually is. This article is going to help explain exactly what it is that you are fighting when you try to cure your skin problems or just try to keep your healthy skin clean and clear. By understanding what acne is you can expect to have more fortune fighting it.

Acne is commonly known as pimples, it is a skin condition that commonly afflicts people during their teenage years. Acne pre-dominantly affects the face but can also show up on the back, neck, shoulders and chest. While most common in teenagers it can appear on adults as well. Neither race or gender is an indicator of acne as it affects male and female and all races equally.

The medical term for it is Acne Vulgaris. It can be diagnosed by the lesions that form on the skin. These lesions can take several different forms: blackheads, whiteheads and cysts. Cysts are formed when the pore becomes completely blocked. Acne is most common during puberty because at this time your body is creating an excess of sebum. Sebum is an oily substance designed to keep the hair and skin soft and lubricated. During puberty the production of sebum is greatly increased which can cause the skin to feel oily and clog pores.

During puberty there is also an increase in the production of follicle cells. Dead follicle cells mixed with sebum can build up and cause white heads. This mix of oil and dead cells is a perfect breeding ground for bacterial which will cause the swelling and redness associated with pimples.

Acne affects about 85% of all people sometime from the age of 12-24. Around 25% of these people will have acne on their back and/or neck as well as the face. The acne will be severe enough to cause about 40% of these people to seek medical treatment.

Acne is most common on the face, especially on the forehead, nose and chin. The back is the next most common area of affliction followed by the neck, chest and shoulders.

Most people will have outgrown their acne problems by the time they reach their twenty’s, but some people will continue to suffer from acne even as adults. In some cases people will not have any acne issues until they are adults, this happens more frequently in men than women.

Acne can have severe emotional and psychological repercussions. Since it affects their appearance it also affects their self image and self esteem. Teenagers are especially vulnerable to this attack on their self-confidence and can even trigger withdraw and depression, as well as feelings of anger and frustration.

Fortunately in this day and age there are many treatments that can help with acne. The foremost thing that can be done to help avoid or alleviate acne is to keep the skin as clean and oil free as possible. Washing the most common problem areas several times a day with soap and water, especially after any activity that triggers perspiration, is usually adequate. There are also many medications available by prescription and over the counter to help with acne control.

There are several options for treating your acne depending upon the degree of severity your are experiencing. For people with the most severe forms of the disease, the best acne treatment may be for you to visit a dermatologist for a consultation about possible medical treatments and therapies to help you beat the problem.
